Our Mission + Values
Who We Are
Here at Wayfinder, our primary mission is to share the full breadth & scope of Yoga - and its inherent promise of personal & collective transformation - to as many people, from as many different & diverse walks of life, as possible, in a manner that is intentionally accessible, inclusive, & trauma-conscious.
We are here to cultivate an inclusive & intentional community of present, mindful, open-hearted human beings inspired to live their Yoga off the mat, and we are committed to sharing the power & possibility of Yoga in a way that educates, inspires, and invites a more expansive view of what Yoga is & can be - both personally & globally, on the mat & off.
Our Core Values
Wayfinder Yoga is founded upon the belief that, as an inherently liberatory spiritual practice, Yoga is a powerful vehicle of personal & collective transformation that is meant to be inclusive & accessible to everyONE & everyBODY. Here at Wayfinder Yoga, we are committed to honoring Yoga’s historical & cultural South Asian roots, while ensuring that our offerings & services are reflective of Yoga’s multi-dimensional, multi-faceted, whole-person approach to embodied wholeness & well-being - for ALL humans.
AHIMSA
Do no harm; Avoid inflicting harm or suffering on other beings and the planet; Actively interrupt and repair harm whenever and wherever it arises.
DIVERSITY
Diversity is our strength. Whether it's the diversity of our offerings, our staff, our community, our backgrounds, our abilities, our perspectives, or our approaches, we believe it's our individual uniquenesses that collectively brightens, strengthens, and expands what's possible - both personally, and globally.
ACCESSIBILITY + EQUITY
We believe that Yoga is meant for everyONE and everyBODY - regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, economic status, physical ability, race, culture, religious or spiritual beliefs, or background. Our Yoga is shared through an intentionally inclusive, accessible, trauma-sensitive lens that honors and respects individual agency, ability, and wisdom. Come as you are. You are always welcome here.
SANGHA (HEART-CENTERED COMMUNITY)
We are here to cultivate a diverse and intentional community of present, mindful, open-hearted human beings who are inspired to live their Yoga off the mat. We believe that together, we are made stronger, and that each of our unique perspectives, experiences, and life stories are an invaluable source of inspiration. Although our individual journeys in life may be quite different, by coming together in this space to move, breathe, feel, and connect, we share this path together. Your liberation is tied to mine; Together, we are walking each other home. Come walk alongside us... we will meet you right where you are.
SEVA (SERVICE)
We believe that our Yoga practice is not meant to be contained within the walls of our studio or the confines of our community; We are called to serve the greater community around us and beyond us by sharing our practice in tangible, impactful ways. Whether it's by offering free and/or subsidized Yoga and meditation classes at local senior centers, schools, shelters, or rehabilitation facilities, or by volunteering our time and presence at local food pantries and outreach centers, or through our in-house teacher training scholarships for those who identify as BIPOC, LGBTQIA, disabled, or subject to any kind of intersectional marginalization both within Yoga spaces and beyond, as well as our reduced-cost workshops and classes for those in financial need, we are committed to making a positive difference in the lives of those we encounter, both on the mat, and off.
KARMA (ACTION)
We practice what we teach, and live what we practice. On the mat and off. Every day we seek to embody and live from the foundational Yoga philosophies we teach, to integrate these practices into our lives, and to make this world a better place through our intentional contribution to it.
KNOW YOUR ROOTS
We are committed to honoring, upholding, & centering Yoga's innate South Asian roots, and to uplifting & amplifying the voices & perspectives of teachers & community members for whom these teachings are an indigenous cultural, historical, & spiritual tradition. We are committed to preserving the integrity & authenticity of Yoga as it's been taught & practiced for thousands of years, while recognizing that Yoga has always existed in conversation & within a diverse array of cultural, historical, religious, & spiritual perspectives. We are committed to sharing this practice from a holistic, culturally-informed lens that upholds Yoga's multi-dimensional, multicultural, & multi-religious background, & preserves its true essence as a liberatory spiritual practice rooted in thousands of years of South Asian spiritual tradition.
LIVE YOUR PRACTICE
We believe that Yoga is an inherently accessible & inclusive liberatory practice centered upon cultivating freedom from suffering & remembering the innate wholeness present in each & every one of us. Its holistic approach addresses all aspects of personal well-being & thriving - through the physical, mental, emotional, energetic, & spiritual dimensions of our life. Yoga has no one-size-fits-all approach, and preaches no particular doctrine; It is not meant to take us away from our day-to-day lives, but rather, to connect us more deeply & meaningfully to every moment of our life as it's unfolding. Yoga invites us to be curious about who we are, & how we relate to ourselves & each other; it guides us to move through the world intentionally, compassionately, & reverently, so that we might walk gently upon this Earth, and leave the world a better place than we found it. Yoga gives us the gift of presence - and through it, the superpowers of choice, connection, joy, equanimity, & wonder - so that we might experience that blissful liberation - that peace that surpasses understanding (kaivalya, samadhi) - wherever we are.
